At twenty-nine, Connie isn’t quite where she thought she’d be. When her beloved gran died Connie returned to Hazelhurst, the village she grew up in, and took over her gran’s old job as caretaker at the village hall. It might not be the stuff of dreams, but Connie loves working at Bluebell Hall – the heart of the community fuelled by copious cups of tea.
So when Bluebell Hall is threatened with closure, Connie is determined not to let greedy property developers get their hands on it. She hatches a plan bonkers enough that it just might work. All it takes is a needle and thread, scraps of old material and willing hands.
Can Connie convince the people of Hazelhurst that their village hall is worth saving? And will she save herself in the process…?
My honest thoughts on this book....
What a fabulously inspiring book! I loved the theme of The Bluebell Bunting Society as well as the realistic and vibrant characters ( who wouldn't like Flip!).
The leading character Connie is caring a tremendous responsibility by looking after the dilapidated Hall that is oozing history and character. There is so much more to The Bluebell Hall, and Connie knows its value but The Hall is crumbling under her care and even Connie is losing her high spirits and positive mind about saving it.
Connie is a resourceful woman, and she is definitely not short on ideas so when she comes up with a very enticing sewing session the people ( of all ages) flog to The Bluebell Hall in lieu to save the heart of their community.
This book is not short of delightfully inspiring characters who all have big hearts and eager to give warm hugs, support and buckets of tea ( Steve and his wife Lucy, Dominic and his daughter Polly and the very enthusiastic and a fairly new resident Flip).
I have quickly fallen under the spell of Hazelhurst and its residence and couldn't wait to find out if Connie's beloved Hall will serve its community for many years to come.
Poppy Dolan has created a delightful book that is laced with passion, dreams and the driving need to belong.
The Bluebell Bunting Society is the perfect book to raise your reading spirit.
