Lorna is a talented gardener and Philly is a plantswoman. Together they work in the grounds of a beautiful manor house in the Cotswolds
They enjoy their jobs and are surrounded by family and friends.
But for them both the door to true love remains resolutely closed.
So when Lorna is introduced to Jack at a dinner party and Lucien catches Philly’s eye at the local farmers market, it seems that dreams really can come true and happy endings lie just around the corner.
But do they?
Troublesome parents, the unexpected arrival of someone from Lorna's past, and the discovery of an old and secret garden mean their lives are about to become a lot more complicated...
My honest thoughts on this book...
I always enjoy Katie Fforde books! All Katie's stories are so sophisticated and written in a very captivating way!
The Secret Garden is no exception! And although I don't have green fingers I got so inspired by this book and bought myself some wonderful herbs and flowers to plant in our garden! Now that spring finally sprang (here in England), and everybody is getting their gardening gear out of the sheds. So here comes my review.
I really adored Philly, Lorna and Lady Anthea (with her secret garden!) But the character I truly admired was Philly's granddad ( Grand) I loved his enthusiasm for the house they bought and his new found passion for baking!
There were plenty of scenes to keep me happily entertain, especially the one when Philly and her new boyfriend Lucian visit his godfather and this old nanny! There is one huge obstacle for Philly and Lucien to get through some family difference. Lucian family is very posh while Philly is NOT.
Also, I could help but felt a bit frustrated with Lorna's crush on her boss Peter, and naturally I was really happy when she met the handsome Jack.
The Secret Garden depict the typical quintessential English countryside so beautifully that most of the time I felt like I am sitting there with the characters and having a good old natter about the garden and satisfying my pallet with a delicious cake and a healthy dose of neighbourly gossip.
An utterly delightful read that put a huge smile on my face. There is plenty of romance, wonderful characters and therapeutic gardening all wrapped up in a typical Fforde-sque writing style.
A huge thank you to Cornerstone Publishing for approving my request to review this book in exchange for a fair review.
