Lizzie's Christmas Escape by Christie Barlow
My honest thoughts on this book:
I love Christie Barlow's book. Every time a new arrives, I know I am in for a delicious treat!
And this Christmas without a doubt there will be a wonderful surprise under the Christmas tree for you with Lizzie's Christmas Escape.
According to Lizzie her marriage lost its sparkle and excitement. Lizzie's husband prefers the tv to her, and Lizzie's starts to wonder if this is the end for them as a couple. Thankfully she has got a lovely house, great grown up girls, creative hobby and a fabulous friend Ann Sandeman ( The Garry Barlow calendar in her pantry seem to help her loneliness a tiny bit too). Then a mysterious man moves in across the road, and Lizzie's gets very excited from the attention Marcus, the new neighbour, seem to be showering her with.
I could totally understand Lizzie's needs for her husband to be more attentive. I would get rather upset if I get treated with grunts instead of answers and an empty chair at the dinner table instead of a lovely conversation about each others day. Well, Henry needs to take a deep look at himself and smarten his act before he loses Lizzie to Marcus. But is Marcus all that seems to be? I thought so at the beginning that Marcus was just a lovely man but oh boy there is a lot more to the man that meets the eye.
I loved Lizzie's and Ann's friendship. The were very lucky to have each other and to share all their happy times as well as the shocks and sadness that sometimes comes with life. I also thought the relationship Lizzie and Ann had with their children was very beautiful and based on respect for each other.
There are twists, shocks, sadness and happiness all weaved through the storyline that is evidently written with so much care and love that I could not help to fall in love with all the characters and cheer them on their individual journeys ( or gasp when I stumbled upon a disturbing discovery).
Lizzie's Christmas Escape is all around fabulous read, it's witty, emotional, inspiring and is oozing with shared intimacies of life, friendships that last lifetime and love that conquers even the toughest of obstacles. Highly recommended as one of your Christmas must have reads.
